Online Dating Profile Tips

Writing a Great Online Dating Profile

On an online dating site such as Mature Dating your profile acts as your advertisement to the other members. It's what creates the first impression of you and can be the make or break factor in whether other members are encouraged to contact you. You want to come across as an interesting person who will be fun to spend time with. Here are some hints and tips for writing a successful online dating profile.

Sell yourself, but be honest

Your profile description is your opportunity to talk about the type of person you are, the things you're interested in and what you like to do. Try to make yourself seem interesting, but don't lie or invent things that aren't true. There's no point in pretending an interest in subjects you don't care for, as any genuine enthusiast will soon realise and be disappointed. However feel free to leave things out you'd rather not mention.

It's also a good idea to talk about what you're looking for – a serious relationship or something more casual, for example. If you know you're looking for particular characteristics it's best to say so, to help ensure that you get the right kind of attention. However don't be too specific and demanding – you don't want to put off people from contacting you because they don't feel they measure up to your standards.

Choose a good photo

Profiles with a photo attached get many more views than ones without, so it's important to choose a good picture. You don't need to use a professional headshot or anything, and in fact if you do, many people will assume it is fake anyway, but try to use a clear, in-focus and reasonably well lit picture. Photos featuring a genuine smile make the best profile pictures, and if you're using a photo with more than one person in it, be sure to indicate which one is you!

Write for the reader

Use appropriate language in your description – if you're looking for mature professional people, then spelling and grammar may be important, and you'd probably be better off avoiding avoid text-speak.

Keep your profile fresh

Your profile isn't set in stone – it's a good idea to review it every so often and make changes if you spot areas for improvement.
